Change is afoot
My philosophy has always been, and is now more than ever “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” I can’t tell you a thing about my car, my cell phone or my IPOD–which by the way, was a gift. Only thing that matters to me is if it works. And up til now, my studio system has worked pretty well–other than the sad demise of my trusted friend Oki 7350. In her memory however, I’ve adopted her stronger, wiser sister Oki 9650-more on Oki later.
Anyway, Dino worships at the altar of Steve Jobs. I’m not kidding. His consistent, persistent insistence that I switch over to Mac (being the last graphic designer on earth still using IBM) finally resulted in a caving in of my anti-technology force field. Now I have two. For the first few days I was floundering–my fonts were missing, my e-mail folders didn’t transfer over, my camera driver was defunct. Gaaaah! One day I must have called him 13 different times in tears begging him to take it all apart and just “put it back!”
Now I’m about a week into the transition and I’m slowly getting the hang of things, although I have yet to figure out why everyone has a boner over Macintosh. It hasn’t brewed my morning coffee for me. It hasn’t got a pot of gold hiding in the CD drive. And it most certainly hasn’t uncovered the meaning of life.
Mac, Schmack, I want my old friend back.

Give it time, Grasshopper, give it time. Change is always unsettling, but in the end it makes you glad you did. Your mac will not cook your dinner or make your bed or open up the pearly gates, but it will look gorgeous, behave wonderfully, be flexible, be reliable, and make it easy for you to tend to it when it has a headache. It short, it will be your new old friend down the road. Embrace the mac, and it will lead you to a (ultimately) simpler, more versatile and user friendly computer experience. My husband eventually did and he was an avid “what’s the diff?” type of guy. Now he’s sold. But like with any computer or gadget, there’s always something you wish it would do and it doesn’t.
Your models are not recent, which means, like with any old computer, you will have some upgrading to do.
I bet Dino can handle many of the issues you noted, so it’s good that you will have some “on site” assistance now and again. If ever in a pinch, drop me a line!! I mean it.

Welcome to the dark side…you’ll get used to it, I promise. Just don’t try to use the Mac Office programs, excel is FAR better on my PC.

Mwahahahaaaa… now we have you!
S’OK sweetie… I understand fully. I bought my first mac a couple of years ago because I have always dated computer guys who gush all over the mac theory. I figured if I had to buy one, why not buy one the computer Know-it-all’s went ga ga over. Well, the first year this thing was basically used for downloading music because I couldn’t figure out the first thing about it. And I do mean first thing. Like… how do I save a file? The concept of clicking and dragging happened purely by accident and for a VERY long time my desktop was so packed with little icons I couldn’t find anything. BUT the day it all dawned on me (I finally admitted my weakness to somebody who helped me out) it all got better. THEN I realized that for all the crap I had put this poor computer through, it still had never crashed on me, never lost anything, and I have never had a virus or other nasty. In the same time my sister (who got her PC the same time I got my mac) had had to send her computer to the cleaners three times and was always complaining of it being buggered up somehow.
Trust us… this is the way to go. For all the time you still have to put in making coffee , you know you don’t have to be putting in time fixing your lifeline!
(And the pictures are so purdy!)
