My Creative Space–Part 1

My home studio is hugely gigantic.  I live in a 2-bedroom condo, and the second bedroom is my studio.  I could work in the basement, but there is no window, it’s colder than hell (yes, my hell is a very cold place!) and there’s a kitty litter box that totally kills the vibe, you know?

Every so often, I have to give the hugely gigantic room a refresher.  It’s about 16 x 20 and it has a window that gets light all day long so it’s nice and bright.  Good thing, since this whole house has no overhead lighting in any of the rooms besides the kitchen.  At one point the studio had a huge queen size bed.  Once Mew started to grow and grow I had to get rid of that bed to make room for more work tables.  It’s quite impractical to not have at least an extra couch in the place though (you know how I like to quarantine myself when I get so much as a sniffle).  So this round of refreshers is ending up with a small pull-out sofa for just such occasions.  Currently it’s still in the garage while we await someone kind neighbor’s help in hoisting it alllll the way up to the third floor.  That will be Part 2 of this post.Creative Workspace

For Part 1, I’ll just show you my new desk area.  I finally ditched that old piece of crap desk that I had before in favor of this new Ikea model.  And I ditched that other old piece of crap that the printer was on for a smaller version of this new Ikea model.  I think it was like $70 for both of these desks.  Now I have space for both computers on one big flat surface.  I even have a new hanging overhead light–too bad it flickers everytime the printer runs!  The desk is tucked into the back of the room, but I still get a nice view of the treetops through my window.  And it’s far enough away from the window that when it’s open I don’t have to listen to the pesky neighborhood kids hollering at each other at the top of their tiny lungs.

Dino and I even threw on a fresh coat of paint–well at least on half the room.  A splash of green and some clean white was just enough to brighten things up and give it a new-construction kind of smell.  I also painted those sassy new wall hangings which I picked up at a tag sale not too long ago.  They’re made of resin plastic I think, and their original finish was a horrendous ’70s mix of orange, brown, taupe and mustard.  I still thought they were kind of rad though, and I think the solid color works on them!

Stay tuned for Part 2.  I’m hoping the couch is up this weekend and I can finally get the last little stragglers put away.  I can’t wait to put out the new pillows that I got at HomeGoods this week.

This looks great! I am so jealous. We’re in the process of redoing our office right now and it’s painfully slow. But I can’t wait for the result!
